How to Install Android 5.1 Lollipop on Xiaomi Redmi 1S via CyanogenMod 12.1

If you are a proud owner of Xiaomi Redmi 1S then I have a good news for you. You can install Android 5.1 Lollipop in your Redmi 1S smartphone by installing the CyanogenMod 12.1.

A reputed xda forum member named jsevi83 released this guide on how to install android 5.1 on Redmi 1S smartphone via CyanogenMod 12.1.

ROM info:

  • ROM OS version : 5.1.x Lollipop
  • ROM Kernel: Linux 3.4.x
  • Status: Testing
  • Build date: 7 April

Changelog:

  • Fix alarm during off mode charging
  • Less aggressive thermal control for battery temp
  • Update Wi-Fi files to fix suspend issue
  • Disable KSM by default (fixes camera for some users)
  • Update media codecs and profile

Xiaomi Redmi 1S Known bugs:

  • Camera HDR mode doesn’t works
  • Alarm doesn’t work when the power is off and not even the charging

CM12.1 bugs:

  • Moving apps to sdcard doesn’t works
  • Livedisplay causes display lagging
    some other minor problems/bugs

Note:

  • Doing this will void the warranty
  • Your device need to have at least 80% charge
  • Take a proper backup of every important data using cloud and Google sync
  • Note that this is an unofficial release, so there are bugs in this update
  • This guide is specially for the Redmi 1S. Doing this on any other device will brick that device
  • After flashing this ROM, if your device gets stuck in the booting animation or you experience boot loop then do a wipe cache partition and wipe tdalvik cache for few times before rebooting Redmi 1S
  • After the installation you need to give it 10 time to boot for the first time

Pre-requisites:

  • You Redmi 1S need to have latest recovery system installed
  • Your Redmi 1S need to have an unlocked bootloader
  • Your Redmi need to be rooted
  • Enable USB debugging by going to settings> About Phone then tap on the build number several times until you see a message saying “you are now a developer“.
  • USB cable to connect your phone to the computer

How to Install Android 5.1 Lollipop on Xiaomi Redmi 1S via CyanogenMod 12.1

Step 1: Connect Redmi 1S to computer Via USB cable

Step 2: Copy the downloaded file to the internal storage of the phone. Remember, do not extract the downloaded file

Step 3: Disconnect the phone from the computer and boot into the recovery mode

Step 4: Now boot your Redmi 1S into the recovery by pressing Volume Up & Power buttons at the same time until the recovery mode appears

Step 5: While in recovery mode, make a nandroid backup of the existing. This is to ensure that if the new ROM does not works or make problem you can revert to the current version easily . From the recovery select Backup and do a swipe on the Swipe to Back Up button

Step 6: Now, perform a data wiping task . Just tap on the Wipe then Advanced Wipe and then select Cache,Dalvik/ART cache and Data. Let’s swipe on the Swipe to Wipe at the bottom of the screen

Step 7: Lets head back to the recovery menu again and select the Install then navigate to the folder where you have saved CM12.1 ROM file. Now select it and do a swipe on Swipe to confirm flash

Step 8: Now install the Gapps package by following the same procedure of the way you flashed the ROM

Step 9: When the installation process is finished, select Reboot > System

When the phone reboots it has the android 5.1 Lollipop running
