How To Root Nexus 6P and Install Custom Recovery on Nexus 6P
Nexus 6P is a newly introduced smartphone on the market. This new Nexus phone is manufactured by Huawei.
Prerequisites:
- At first you need to unlock the bootloader of Nexus 6P
- After that you need to setup the ADB & Fastboot in your computer
- Then, have the proper drivers installed for Nexus 6P
- Enable USB debugging by going to Developer options * then enable USB debugging on your Nexus 6P
- Now , go to the Developer Options & enable Allow OEM unlock.
How To Root And Install Custom Recovery On Nexus 6P
- Download the appropriate recovery & suitable SuperSU zip file on your computer. After that you need to place the SuperSu package file to the phone’s internal storage
- Now you have to finish the installation of the ADB & fastboot on your PC.
- Turn off Nexus 6P. Unplug it from computer
- Now boot the Nexus 6P to the bootloader or fastboot mode. In order to do that you need to press & hold volume down & then press power button simultanously for 5-6 seconds
- You will see the bootloader screen. You have to connect your device to the PC using a USB cable.
- Now, you need to go to the location where you have stored that recovery file. Now, rename that recoveyr file to a simple name which you can easily remember like : recvoery.img . Now you have to open a cmd window by pressing right click on that same window’s empty space. You will see “Open Command Window Here” . Now select it and it will launch a cmd window
- Now, you have to type the following in the command prompt to check the connectivity : fastboot devices
- Ok, now you have to flash the Custom Recovery on Nexus 6P. You have to type the code written below:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
- Thus custom recovery is installed in Nexus 6P now. After this you have to boot your phone in to the recovery mode. TO go to the recovery mode of Nexus 6P, you have to turn off the device fist. Then press and hold power key & volume down button at the same time. If you want you can use these command also :
fastboot boot recovery.img
- While you are in the recovery, now you can take a backup / nandroid. This is to backup the current ROMN, thus if anything goes wrong you can go back to this situation.
- Well, now you have to return to the recovery home screen & tap the install and go to the SuperSu file into the device’s storage & select it.
- Now, you have to confirm the swipe operation which is at the bottom of the screen to install the SuperSU package.
- After the installation you can reboot to the system.
- Thus you have the access to the root of your Nexus 6P.
Voila ! Now you have the root access and you can start tweaking. Note that if something is not working then you can always go back to the previous ROM by flashign the Nandroid. To check the root status use this Rootchecker App
