How to Install Android 5.1 Lollipop on Nexus 7 2012 3G Model

Good news for Nexus 7 Owners that lollipop is finally available for their tablet. Google started to roll out the Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA update with build LMY47D for the 2012 version of Nexus 7 3G. However, they are rolling it out in a periodical way meaning some of the users might have to wait for it. If you are one of those unlucky person who have not received the OTA notification yet or don’t want to wait for it then you can follow this step to install lollipop on your Nexus 7 2012 3G.

How to install android 5.1 lollipop on nexus 7 2012:

Download:

Nexus 7 2012 3G: nakasig LMY47D from LRX22C

Pre-requisites:

  • Charge your tablet at least 80%
  • Unlock the bootloader of Nexus 7 2012
  • This Android 5.1 update is only for Nexus 7 2012
  • Take a proper backup of everything important on your device. Take a backup and store it somewhere else

Note:

This is the stock Android 5.1 build LMY47D released by Google but not the leaked firmware

How to Install Lollipop Android 5.1 via ADB Sideliad on Nexus 7 2012 3G

Step 1: You need to download Android SDK from the Android development site and install it correctly on you PC. In this process you need to use ADB & fastboot files which can be found at Platform-Toold folder

Step 2: You need to enable the developer settings and USB debugging
→Navigate to the settings then go to About Tablet
→See the build number? Tap it seven times and pop up will say that you are a developer now
→Let’s return to the settings menu and you will see a new option named Developer Option , click on it
→Turn on the Developer option and check the USB Debugging
→If your Nexus already has Android 5.0 then ensure the Enable OEMunlock is checked
→Let’s connect your Nexus tablet to the computer and click OK on the dialogue box that will ask you to allow USB debugging

Step 3: Place OTA file in the Platform-Tools directory (This will ease up the process)

Step 4: Ensure that the Nexus 7 is connected with the computer and the device’s serial number showing as a connected device. AFter this execute the following command: adb devices
You will see a serial number followed by the device

Step 5: Boot your Nexus tablet into bootloader mode or recovery mode by entering the following command : adb reboot bootloader

You can do this in simple way by holding the Power and volume button together while Nexus 7 is turned off
Step 6: Press Volume Down button twice till you have navigated to Recovery Mode. Once you navigate to Recovery Mode, press power button to select it. You will see that your Nexus 7 restarting but an image of Android with red-exclamation point will appear. Hole the Power Button and Volume button again to go to recovery mode

Step 7: While you are in recovery , press the Volume Down button to highlight apply update from ADB and press the power button to select it. Enter the following command:
adb sideload [OTA file].zip

Step 8: The command prompt or terminal prompt will show a dialogue with the progress of the transferring the update from ADB to your Nexus Tablet. Once the update is transferred , you will be able to see the progress bar on the screen

Step 9: Your Nexus Tablet will restart autoatically and it will boot into normal mode

Once Nexus 7 2012 3G boots , it will be running on the Latest Android 5.1 LMY47D stock firmware.
